Garten Gala Happy Hour.

Ed.1 Vol. 5

What does it really mean to show up?

It’s more than attending an event or checking a box. It’s choosing to be part of something bigger. It’s supporting one another. How we celebrate progress and create space where every person has the opportunity to contribute and succeed. Time and again, we’re reminded that when people come together with purpose, the impact reaches far beyond a single moment.

In the past two months, that spirit was everywhere. In the conversations, the celebrations, the partnerships, and the everyday actions that continue to move our mission forward.

Friends of Garten Happy Hour Recap

You showed up, brought your support, and made our Friends of Garten Happy Hour a true success.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. This event was created as a way to celebrate our donors and monthly sustainers, and it quickly became something even more meaningful. It was a space where community showed up for one another, connections were made, and support for our mission was felt in every conversation. Maybe even a few business cards were exchanged.

One of the most powerful moments of the evening was hearing from Juan and Carolyn. Their stories were both inspiring and grounding, reminding us exactly why this work matters. Because of your support, opportunities continue to grow.

A special thank you to Coria Estates for being such a generous host and featured sponsor. The setting, the wine, and the hospitality made the evening truly unforgettable, and we are so grateful for your continued partnership. And as always, El Ranchero brought their amazing food for everyone to enjoy.

After reimagining this event from last year’s luncheon, we were thrilled to receive such positive feedback. We’re excited to share that this is just the beginning, and we look forward to bringing this event back in the future. Stay tuned.

Celebrating 30 Years of Laita Chao

For three decades, Laita has been at the heart of this organization. Her commitment, consistency, and care have not only helped shape the work we do but also the culture that defines us. Milestones like this are rare. They reflect a level of loyalty and impact that leaves a lasting mark on everyone around them.

While our annual GEM meeting brought the team together, it also served as a reminder of what truly moves Garten forward. People like Laita.

Her 30-year journey is more than a number. It’s a legacy of showing up, supporting others, and contributing to something bigger than herself.

Thank you, Laita, for everything you’ve given to Garten over the years. Your impact continues to inspire.

Welcoming New Leadership

We’re excited to introduce new leadership and celebrate growth within the Garten team.

Jordyn Greene, Garten's director of HR

Jordyn Greene joins Garten as our new HR Director, bringing over 10 years of experience across fast-paced manufacturing and retail environments. She leads with a people-first mindset and believes strong workplaces are built on trust, support, and just the right amount of humor. As a busy mom of three boys, Jordyn’s leadership style blends organization, patience, and creative problem-solving. When she’s not juggling schedules and cheering others on, her favorite way to recharge is a trip to the coast with her family.

Kati Arp, new Garten Manager.

Please join us in congratulating Kati Arp on her well-earned promotion to DayBreak and Supported Employment Operations Manager. In her new role, Kati will provide leadership and operational support across both programs. During her time at Garten, she has held several roles, including Supported Employment Assistant Manager and Job Developer, consistently demonstrating dedication to both the people we serve and our mission. Outside of work, Kati enjoys time with her family, nature walks, camping, boating on the Snake River, and caring for her pets.

We’re also excited to welcome Brandon Kirk as our new Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager. Brandon brings nearly 20 years of experience in the field, including leadership roles at FedEx, service as a Safety Compliance Officer with Oregon OSHA, and running his own EHS consulting business. His background reflects deep expertise in workplace safety, compliance, and building strong safety cultures. Outside of work, Brandon is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys fishing, backpacking, kayaking, scuba diving, gardening, and boating. He’s also a dedicated sports fan, former rugby player, lifelong chess competitor, and committed animal rescuer.

DEQ Tour & Impact

We were proud to welcome the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to our facility following the closeout of the Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine: Materials Management Grant

Through their $38,933 investment, we were able to upgrade key equipment in our Electronics Recycling department. These improvements have strengthened our operations, expanded our impact, and enhanced our ability to serve both the environment and our community.

With DEQ’s support, we diverted more than 514,000 pounds of e-waste from landfills last year and are grateful for their partnership in advancing environmental responsibility. You can learn more about their visit by listening to their podcast here.

Until Next Time

Real impact doesn’t happen in isolation. A large part of our community. Each action plays a role in something larger, and together, those moments create lasting change.

Thank you for being part of this community and for continuing to show up.

Until next time, keep growing with us.
