Garten experienced meaningful growth throughout 2025. We’re proud to continue serving the Willamette Valley by expanding employment for people with disabilities, creating pathways to independence, and supporting individuals as they build fulfilling and purpose-driven lives. From community events like Sip & Stroll to year-round advocacy for inclusive hiring, our focus remains on helping people of all abilities find the jobs that fit their strengths.

Below, you’ll find three video stories featuring employees who truly represent our mission of inclusion. Kenny, Carolyn, and Angus are valued team members who arrive each day with dedication, camaraderie, and a commitment to supporting a workplace where everyone can thrive. Their journeys capture the heart of disability-inclusive employment and the impact of meaningful work across the Willamette Valley community. We’re honored to share their experiences and celebrate everything they contribute to Garten and beyond.

Angus Big Spring

Shred Truck Driver Angus Big Spring brings one of the most upbeat and motivated attitudes in all of Garten. Known for his enthusiasm and willingness to help wherever he is needed, Angus adds a sense of joy to the team each day. His positivity strengthens our inclusive workplace and helps create the kind of environment where everyone feels welcome.

Angus first joined Garten as a temporary employee. Through hard work and a genuine desire to learn, he grew into his current role supporting our document destruction services across the Willamette Valley. He appreciates the chance to travel throughout the community, meet new people, and experience the variety that comes with being on the road.

Relationship building comes naturally to Angus. He focuses on connecting with coworkers, uplifting others, and contributing to a workplace culture rooted in acceptance. His story reflects the value of meaningful employment and the importance of inclusive Willamette Valley jobs that empower people to succeed. We are excited to see how Angus continues to grow and inspire those around him.

Kenny Stella

Kenny Stella is a Day Porter in Garten’s custodial department. His story reflects the impact of creating meaningful employment for people with disabilities and the difference an inclusive workforce can make. Kenny first joined Garten through the Summer Youth Employment Program, starting as an intern who wanted to gain experience and contribute to his community. With steady guidance, hands-on training, and access to real disability employment opportunities, he grew into a custodial lead responsible for supporting his own team and helping maintain high standards across our facilities.

Today, Kenny thrives as a Day Porter, enjoying the independence and structure his role provides. A dependable paycheck, a schedule that fits his needs, and ongoing leadership development all contribute to his sense of purpose. What he values most is the camaraderie within Garten and the supportive relationships he’s built throughout Garten. Kenny’s path from intern to team lead demonstrates how accessible jobs rooted in inclusion help people step into roles that are stable, meaningful, and fulfilling.

Carolyn Henkell

Carolyn Henkell is a respected and deeply valued lead in Garten’s custodial department. She brings years of professional cleaning experience along with a calm, steady leadership style that helps unite the team and strengthen our culture of belonging. Her commitment to quality work and her ability to support others make her an essential part of our inclusive workplace.

One of the things Carolyn appreciates most about her role is the combination of scheduling flexibility and financial stability it provides. She has always been a night owl. Now she works a shift that fits her natural rhythm and helps her perform at her best. The dependable paycheck has also created meaningful financial freedom. It has allowed her to rebuild her credit, gain confidence in managing her finances, and even purchase her own car.

The opportunities available through Garten have helped Carolyn improve her quality of life. They support her as she pursues a future that feels stable and fulfilling. Her journey shows the real impact of disability employment opportunities and the difference an inclusive, supportive environment can make for families across the Willamette Valley. We are grateful to have Carolyn on the team.

An Accessible Community

These stories reflect the heart of our mission and the real impact of creating meaningful employment for people with disabilities. When individuals are given the opportunity to work in roles that align with their strengths, they gain confidence, financial stability, and a sense of belonging that extends far beyond the workplace.

The career growth experienced by Kenny, Carolyn, and Angus demonstrates how inclusive jobs foster stronger teams and communities. Going into 2026, we remain committed to expanding opportunities, advocating for accessible career paths, and building a future where every person has the support they need to succeed.
