General Position Summary:
Supervises landscaping/grounds maintenance crews; operates landscape equipment/tools; performs grounds maintenance to ensure lawns, flower beds, parking lots, etc. are maintained to specifications of contact(s). Ensures quality and safety standards are met at all times.
Essential Functions:
- Performs lawn and landscape maintenance including, but not limited to the following:
- Watering of turf, plants, trees, shrubs, and other landscape material.
- Mowing and edging turf grass.
- Weeding of turf, planted, and grounds areas.
- Raking turf and planted areas to gather leaves, grass, cuttings, dirt, bark, and other landscape waste for collection and removal.
- Trimming and pruning of trees, plants, and shrubs.
- Picking up and disposing of trash, debris, and other extraneous matter from hard surfaces as well as turf and planted areas.
- Performs litter clean-up in/around building(s) and parking lot(s).
- Sweeps sidewalks, entryways, and other areas as necessary.
- Ensures appropriate tools are used properly and in a safe manner.
Secondary Functions
- Attends assigned meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Full supervisory responsibility for custodial crew members. Provides daily work direction, gives approval of absences, and makes recommendations regarding pay changes, job changes, and behavior modification.
Specific Job Skills Required:
- Be proficient in all aspects of grounds maintenance tasks/duties.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to make decisions, use independent judgment and/or take independent action.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to operate hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time on various surfaces.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, climb stairs/ladders, and make repetitive motions of the arms/hands/wrists regularly throughout normal work shift.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 40# frequently throughout normal work shift.
- Ability to load/unload equipment.
- Ability to push/pull, up to 350 pounds with assistance as needed throughout a normal work shift.
- Excellent eye-hand coordination.
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of current vehicle insurance.
Education and/or Experience Required:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience/training in general grounds maintenance work, with chemical applicator’s license a plus.
- A minimum of 6 – 12 months directing others in assigned duties.
- High school education or equivalent.
