General Position Summary:
The Branch Manager provides leadership and management for all facets of the Eugene Division to ensure financial and mission goals are attained. They will ensure increasing sales activities occur through ongoing customer contacts and that excellent customer service is always provided. In addition, they will develop procedures which will ensure a safe and clean working environment and that the overall functions of the Eugene Division are as efficient and cost-effective as possible. Garten also expects that the Eugene Branch Manager will serve as a positive role model for others, demonstrating Garten’s vision, mission and values both within and outside the organization.
Responsibilities are wide ranging and require strong relationships be built with local employees, companywide associates, and external partners. The manager must be able to build and maintain trust and engagement at all levels in order to achieve objectives.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- Coordinates, coaches, and empowers the leadership team of the branch.
- Operational Leadership
- Develops, coordinates, and oversees the work processes of the branch.
- Ensures the work processes and workflows of the branch provide integrated employment opportunities.
- Ensures branch is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Maintains current knowledge of technical developments related to the branch.
- Responsible for direct supervision of branch supervisors and key employees and indirect supervision of subordinate branch employees.
- Interviews, processes personnel paperwork, ensures training, tracks/documents, makes wage and hour decisions, maintains accountability, and is responsible for corrective actions.
- Ensures safety through proactive action, safety-conscious culture building, and definitive response to safety hazards.
- Contract Management
- Manages all contracts within the branch, ensuring that customer specifications and standards are consistently met.
- Develops bids for new contracts and renewals, negotiates with the customer, and follows through with execution
- Tracks data pertaining to contract performance, maintains reporting per contract requirements
- Updates contracts consistently in response to new pricing, scope changes, and routine renewals.
- Resolves service concerns and implements preventative measures against reoccurrence
- Sales and Customer Service
- Responsible for developing sales goals and executing them in order to maximize growth and profitability.
- Ensures excellent customer service through developing and maintaining proactive and positive relationships with all customers and meeting regularly with key accounts.
- Vision and Planning
- Responsible for budget development and management for the branch.
- Researches, develops and documents improved systems and procedures for the branch.
- Participates in company-wide decision making and vision as a member of the Garten Management Team
Secondary Functions:
- Ensures that all relevant records for the branch are accurately maintained
- Responsible for purchasing and maintenance of branch inventory and assets, internally and externally (for goods sold to customers).
- Attends meetings and participates on committees/teams as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Job Scope:
Operates independently with minimal specific direction and determines the practices and procedures of the branch; contributes to the development of new concepts for the branch. Decisions are usually made within general company policy and/or contract constraints but may require independent decision making and action.
This position requires full budgetary preparation and compliance accountability for an annual operating budget greater than $1,000,000. Responsible to provide input on long-range operational planning and will be asked to provide input on long-range strategic planning for the organization.
Mistakes/errors in judgment and contracting and/or budgeting could result in lost contracts/ funding, inefficient use of human and capital assets, customer dissatisfaction, and inability to obtain new contracts/funding and may lead to litigation for failure to comply with current regulations, all of which could have significant negative financial impact on the organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct supervisory responsibility for supervisors and key employees. This responsibility includes employee evaluation, employee counseling and/or discipline, approving any absences or overtime, and making recommendations regarding hiring, terminations, pay changes, position changes, and training.
Has indirect supervisory responsibilities for all branch employees. This includes full supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the regular supervisors and key employees anddispute resolution responsibilities for all employees in the branch.
Interpersonal Contacts:
Frequent interaction with those within the branch as well as with external customers. Types of interactions emphasize interpersonal skills when dealing with the day-to-day operations for both internal and external contacts, involve information exchange, negotiation, problem-solving, training and experience sharing, and selling when dealing with customers and vendors.
Both internal and external contacts are usually made at the employee’s own initiative with 50% of the contacts being over the telephone and 50% face to face. At least 30% of all contacts are with external customers while 70% are with internal customers. Contacts may frequently contain discussion of confidential or sensitive information/issues requiring discretion.
Specific Job Skills Required:
- Excellent supervision/management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, decision making, judgment, supervisory, communication, problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills
- Exceptional coaching development skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook (or equivalent program)
- Ability to learn, use, and teach new software – including but not limited to MS Teams, Adobe Acrobat, Paycom (cloud-based timekeeping), and Sage (cloud-based accounting).
- Analytical, research, and development skills
- Ability to perform advanced math and knowledge of accounting procedures
- Working knowledge of financial statements
- Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and control resources
- Ability to organize projects, balance multiple priorities, and focus on tasks through completion
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Ability to actively participate in team development and team-oriented processes and motivate others to do the same
- Ability to operate division equipment/machinery.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, kneel, grasp, manipulate/handle, and make repetitive motions of hands/wrists/arms throughout a normal workday.
- Ability to lift up to 40# and to pull/push up to 2,000# with a pallet jack occasionally during a normal workday.
- Valid drivers’ license, acceptable driving record, and proof of current vehicle insurance
Education and/or Experience Required:
- Minimum of 2 years management and budgeting experience in a production and/or manufacturing setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, or related field, with preference given to those with an advanced degree
- Continuous Improvement experience desirable
- 2 years of additional management experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
