After 20 Years of Serving Garten’s Mission,
CEO Tim Rocak is Retiring
Garten Services, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, announces that its Chief Executive Officer, Tim Rocak, is retiring after two decades of exemplary leadership. Tim’s last day as Garten CEO will be July 31, 2024.
To ensure a smooth and successful leadership transition, Tim Rocak has assisted Garten’s Board of Directors in implementing a leadership succession plan developed over two years ago in anticipation of his retirement. Garten’s Board of Directors has engaged a recruitment firm and is currently soliciting and screening candidates. The organization expects to hire its next Chief Executive Officer by the end of June 2024.
Under Tim’s compassionate leadership, Garten established invaluable community partnerships and provided life-changing opportunities to over 500 individuals with disabilities annually. He spearheaded initiatives such as “Transformation,” which emphasized community-integrated services and transitioned Garten businesses away from reliance on state funding, fostering self-sufficiency and sustainability. Additionally, Tim led the startup of electronics recycling and the expansion of Garten’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF), as well as replacing expensive leases through the purchase of the 500 SE Hawthorne Ave facility. He has also played a pivotal role in launching Garten-led training programs such as Project SEARCH and the Landscape Professional Training Program, providing invaluable skills and opportunities to individuals with disabilities.
Tim’s leadership has extended beyond Garten’s day-to-day operations. Selflessly sharing his expertise, he has provided guidance and support to organizations across multiple states. His vision and advocacy also contributed to legislative victories, such as helping to create and pass a law making Oregon the third state in the country to eliminate sub-minimum wages for people with disabilities.
His visionary guidance over the past twenty years has provided people with disabilities meaningful employment opportunities and a valued place in our community. As he prepares to embark on this new chapter of retirement, Garten Services extends its deepest gratitude for Tim’s unwavering dedication, transformative leadership, and profound impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities. While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of humble service and advocacy is everlasting and will continue to inspire us all.
